The economic COVID-19 crisis is a challenge for everyone, including Sri Lanka!
On the one hand for entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, but above all for the employees who have to feed themselves and their families. We in tourism suffer particularly from this, as of course mainly tourists from abroad are our customers and come to Sri Lanka for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Due to the travel restrictions, it looks very bad for the current financial year 2020. Not only for us as entrepreneurs a disaster, but of course also for our employees and all those who live from tourism in the small village of Kalpitiya.
We also had a similar situation at Easter a year ago after the bombings at Easter 2019. Our reserves have been used up, and such a situation is of course incredibly dramatic for us again, especially without a forecast. In truth, we don’t know when tourists will come again and whether we will survive the whole thing!
That’s why we’ve launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe to financially support our team and their families over the next few months. We still need to feed ourselves, and our government doesn’t give us the support we get in European countries, for example.
