Congratulations for 30 years surf store upsidedown.at

As part of the celebrations of our water sports friends for the 30th anniversary of Austria’s largest surf store UpSideDown, we were allowed to create a Sri Lanka night in Podersdorf on one of the evenings! However, traveling in times to Corona is not necessarily easy, but possible. Together with surf store UpSideDown we wanted to give the Podersdorf kitesurfing scene a little inspiration where to go for next holidays! And to spoil you with some Singhalese delicacies 🙂 Moreover, Sri Lanka has besides one of the kitesurfing hotspots in Kalpitiya also a lot to offer culturally! Delicious curries, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as seafood from the surrounding waters.

VIP: Sri Lankan Ambassador visits the promotion event!

So, for this festive occasion we also invited the Sinhalese Embassy from Vienna. His Excellency Majintha Jayesinghe, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka in Austria and Mr. Charitha Weerasinghe, were both able to visit the surf spot in Podersdorf and also enthusiastically joined the festivities. The famous singer Rohitha Jayalath of the Sinhala reggae band JayaSri also visited and enjoyed the ambience! The owner of surf store UpSideDown (Thomas Böhm) and De Silva Windresort received great praise for organizing such excellent events in times like these to promote Sri Lanka as a top vacation destination for kitesurfers, windsurfers and ambitious water sports families!

Sun & Fun at Kitebeach Podersdorf

Besides good food we chatted, laughed, drank, danced, made new friends and played SUP polo! At this point a big thank you to the family of “Cowboy” who documented his SUP polo action incredibly funny from the beach! Also thanks to those who prepared everything and cleaned up again, to the bar team, to the winery Ettl for the excellent organic wines and the endless free beer sponsored by Up Side Down.
We were warmed up by the beautiful sunsets and one or the other was showered by the Saturday thunderstorm! All in all, the evenings were legendary and will stay with us in our memories for a long time.

We would like to thank Thomas Böhm and his crew, who have been supporting us and Sri Lanka for many years and who always come to visit us in Kalpitiya! The De Silva Windresort in Kalpitiya is the 2nd home for our wind and water sports enthusiastic friends of Kite2Fly and Surfshop UpSideDown and in the one or other winter break we celebrate our mutual memories in Kalpitiya! Oh well, who would like to treat himself to a new shirt as a souvenir, can purchase the specially made designs for this in the UpSideDown!
