Are you interested in kitesurfing and thinking about booking a beginner’s course?
Yes, good idea, but only where and when and with whom?

There are many offers and also many spots, so it is important to find out a little in advance whether the kitesurfing school of your choice can prove the appropriate skills. It is advisable to book with a surf school that is at least internationally certified, such as: De Silva with VDWS (Association of German Water Sports Schools). Because then you are also guaranteed that you will learn at a high-quality school and that you will be spared corresponding inconveniences… because even if kiting looks easy, it is not that easy at the beginning and a good instructor with a good teaching system is half the battle! The school should also have a rescue boat to ensure you the highest level of safety.

The right equipment is also important so that you can steer the kite! Therefore, book with a school that also offers you well-known equipment, such as: De Silva with the new North Kiteboarding material – which is also used and recommended by the top stars!

But the most important thing is that you learn at a spot that is also beginner-friendly. So a spot with enough wind days, winds that don’t pull you offshore out to sea – preferably a lagoon or a lake where you can stand, but still the water reaches deep enough so that you don’t land dangerously. Therefore, a spot that offers you enough safety so that you can learn the sport in a relaxed way!

If you decide to learn kitesurfing on vacation, then plan enough days to internalize the knowledge you have learned afterwards, for example 4 days of course and 4 days of training after the course. If you don’t have that much time for this, then at least plan to take a private lesson with an instructor soon after your course at your home spot! Because every spot is different and it is important to adapt to it.

Also remember that there are certain seasons when the winds are optimal to learn kitesurfing! At a professional kitesurfing school , the corresponding information is also advertised on their homepage.

A general tip: “If you buy cheap, you buy expensive!” This saying also applies in the kite industry! Because most of the time behind cheap offers there is too little quality and too little time to learn the sport! Therefore, a few euros more are certainly the better investment! At De Silva, we recommend 1:1 lessons, i.e. 1 instructor with 1 student, to give you the attention you need at the beginning! Expect about 3-4 days of course time!

It’s always more fun as a couple than alone, pack your friend, your brother/sister or your children and do a course together! Shared sorrow is halved sorrow but shared joy is known to be double joy 🙂

We wish you a lot of fun with your new sport and look forward to you booking your course with us!
